Deer The deer is the only animal that can find the sacred fungus of immortality and has therefore become the symbol of longevity. The horn of the deer holds an important place in Chinese Materia Medica; they are sorted as “old’ or “young.” The internal parts are made into pills and sold to heal rickets and other infantile diseases. Chinese people eat harts-horn in large quantities at a great expense to prolong their life.
